Vossloh Buys Majority Interest in Global Rail Systems

Vossloh has expanded its presence in the communications and signaling sector by purchasing a majority stake in Global Rail Systems, Inc., the Marlin, Texas-based supplier. Terms were not disclosed.

Vossloh is a global player in rail technology markets with core businesses involved in rail infrastructure, rail vehicles, and signaling systems. The acquisition of Global Rail Systems complements Vossloh's three other U.S.-owned companies: Vossloh Track Material (formerly Pohl Corp.), Cleveland Track Material, Inc., and Vossloh Fastening Systems America Corp.

Global Rail makes and supplies the railroad, transit and industrial railroad markets with advanced railroad technology products for main line and yard switch control and automation, crossing warning systems, train detection, and advanced control and dispatching software.

Global Rail's management team is expected to stay in place under terms of the new deal.

"This is a perfect marriage of track and train control technologies. We have the right resources to establish Vossloh in the U.S. signaling market and place Global Rail Systems' products in Europe--greatly strengthening our position in the rail signaling market," noted Global Rail founder Coy Beaman.

Global Rail CEO Tom Schlosser added that the new partnership will benefit rail customers with greater support and a wider range of products. "For GRS, we foresee increased market share and more aggressive R&D efforts," he added.
