The Board of Directors of Seattle area's Sound Transit has awarded a $159.8 million contract to Hoffman Construction Company to build the U District Station finishes. The underground station is part of the Northgate Link Extension that will open in 2021.
The contract includes constructing civil, structural and architectural finishes. The work also includes elevators and escalators, mechanical and electrical equipment, fire protection and emergency ventilation systems, surface restoration, landscaping, and 100 spaces for bike parking. The site will also accommodate future development above the station.
Construction on the station is scheduled to begin in June.
The Northgate Link will extend light rail 4.3 miles north from the University of Washington.
