North Carolina Railroad Company Board Names New Chairman and Vice Chair

The North Carolina Railroad Company's (NCRR) board of directors has elected John L. Atkins III, of Durham, as chairman, and Christie S. Cameron, of Raleigh, as vice chair, effective October 1, 2009. Atkins succeeds William H. Kincheloe, of Rocky Mount, who has served as chairman since 2006. Kincheloe will step down from that role but continue to serve as a member of the board.

Atkins is chairman and CEO of O'Brien/Atkins, an architectural and engineering firm located in Research Triangle Park, N.C. He has served on NCRR's board since 2004. He is active in industry groups, civic and professional organizations, and economic development initiatives.

Cameron is clerk of the North Carolina Supreme Court. She has served on the board since 1999.

NCRR owns and manages the 317-mile rail corridor extending from Morehead City to Charlotte. The railroad carries 60-plus freight trains and eight passenger trains daily.
