LA Metro to Modernize Blue Line Starting in January

In January 2019, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will begin a $350-million modernization project for the Metro Blue Line to improve reliability and enhance safety. The New Blue project will require portions of the line to be temporarily closed for two extended four-month closures.

Work on the Blue Line will include improvements to the signaling, tracks and the overhead wires. Four new crossover tracks will be built, and station improvements will be made, including new digital map cases, signage, paint and landscaping.

Blue Line service to Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station will be closed for eight months for the station to improve capacity, install a new customer service center and community plaza, and upgrade safety and security systems. Green Line service will operate normally at the station.

Schedules for the closures are available on Metro’s website
