Union Pacific Railroad is investing nearly $11.8 million on the infrastructure of a rail line that runs between near Kansas City, Mo., and near Marshall, Mo. The project will be entirely funded by Union Pacific and is scheduled to be completed in early June.
The infrastructure improvements include the replacement of 89,900 railroad ties and the installment of 39,700 tons of rock ballast. Crews will also renew the surfaces at 103 road crossings.

Union Pacific will complete nearly 1,500 projects across its 32,000-mile network this year. The improvements will improve train operating efficiency, reduce wait times for motorists at crossings and enhance safety.
