Harsco Corporation has announced that its railway track maintenance division, Harsco Rail, has received an order for seven Stoneblower track geometry machines from the United Kingdom’s Network Rail. The order calls for deliveries beginning in late 2019 to replace a retiring fleet of Stoneblower units.
Network Rail will use the new Stoneblower units to automate the process for restoring track geometry. The units use pneumatic stone insertion below the cross ties, or sleepers, with computerized measurement, design systems and automatic stone metering systems. The resulting track maintains a high level of ballast compaction, and ensures full line speed hand-back, reducing track maintenance cycles and preserving the condition of the ballast and cross ties.
Harsco Rail will also provide a long-term parts agreement to Network Rail, maintaining availability for Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) spare parts and software support.
Network Rail is the owner and manager of the mainline railway infrastructure in Great Britain.
