G&W Reports January Carloads

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) has reported a decrease of 3.4 percent, or 9,337 carloads, for January 2019 rail traffic compared to January 2018. Carloads totaled 267,794.

For January 2019, same-railroad traffic was up by 1.2 percent, or 3,179 carloads, when compared to January 2018, which excluded carloads from G&W’s former Continental European intermodal business, which was sold in June 2018, and short line lease expirations in Canada (GEXR and SOR) in the fourth quarter of 2018.

G&W’s North American operations reported an increase in January traffic of 1.7 percent to 138,532 carloads, primarily due to increased petroleum products and metals traffic.
