Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) has reported an increase of 0.8 percent, or 2,042 carloads, for February 2018 rail traffic compared to February 2017. Carloads totaled 254,270. For February 2018, same-railroad traffic was up by 0.6 percent, or 1,605 carloads, to 253,833 carloads when compared to February 2017.
G&W’s North American operations reported an increase in February traffic of 0.7 percent to 127,344 carloads, including traffic from the Heart of Georgia Railroad, Inc. acquisition. Same railroad traffic was up 0.3 percent, due to traffic increases across several commodity groups.
Same-railroad traffic did see a decrease in agricultural products traffic. Also, lower than expected steam coal shipments for February were seen in G&W’s Midwest region due to mild winter weather and unscheduled utility maintenance outages.
