Metra, the Chicago area commuter rail service, will be replacing rail ties between Libertyville and Fox Lake during the month of April. The work will be done on a 17-mile single-track section of the line.
“We realize that this will represent a short-term inconvenience for some of our riders, but track projects like this are absolutely essential to maintaining safe and high-quality rail service,” said Jim Derwinski, Metra CEO and executive director. “Limiting rail traffic during the work period will significantly condense the project timeline and the overall customer impact.”
Metra workers will replace 17,000 ties over the single-track span. The work will also include the replacement of five switches, brush clearing and the continued upgrade of the PTC signal system.
