On June 12, Union Pacific (UP) will hold a series of community events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the railroad reaching Kearney, Grand Island and Columbus, Neb.

The events include a display of Union Pacific’s historic No. 844 steam locomotive, commemorative golden spike presentations from the railroad to community mayors, exhibits detailing the communities’ railroad connections, and kid-friendly photo-op backdrops.

"Union Pacific is proud to serve the mission given to us by our founding father, President Abraham Lincoln – to connect and support this country and the communities that define it," said Kelli O’Brien, UP director public affairs. "The commemorative golden spike presentations and the steam locomotive display dually commemorate our shared past and vibrant future together."

Steam locomotive No. 844’s stops are part of a multistate journey from Cheyenne, Wyo., to Omaha, where it will be part of a 12-day display at Union Pacific’s Home Plate.
