California High-Speed Rail Starts Geotechnical Work Along Pacheco Pass

The California High-Speed Rail Authority and its contractor Kleinfelder are performing geotechnical work where approximately 13 miles of tunnels in the Pacheco Pass are proposed for the future high-speed rail line that will travel from San Jose to Merced.

Drilling crews are taking soil and rock samples from several locations within the public right of way along State Route 152. The samples will be used to determine the exact conditions of the ground hundreds of feet below the surface.

The San Jose to Merced Project Section environmental clearance process is currently underway.
