On May 23, San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will host a Twitter town hall with experts and elected leaders present to discuss the agency’s 2018 fiscal year (FY18) budget, which begins July 1, 2017 and ends June 30, 2018.
The upcoming budget includes major Measure RR expenditures, which will replace track, and develop power infrastructure and other critical improvements to increase safety and reliability. Fare evasion and security improvements will also be discussed, with $1.2 million slated to go toward increasing public safety.
BART’s ridership has dropped, causing the agency to face funding challenges. The staff and directors are working to propose solutions that offer cost savings without cutting into service levels.
Next year, BART will be opening the new 10 mile BART-to-Antioch extension past Pittsburg/Bay Point and potentially Berryessa and Milpitas stations.
