Alstom has received an order for 61 Citadis Spirit light rail vehicles (LRVs) from Metrolinx, the transit provider for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area (GTHA). The contract is worth more than CA$529 million and includes an option for additional vehicles.

Angelo Guercioni, managing director of Alstom Canada, said, “We are proud to continue our collaboration with Metrolinx as it seeks to link communities and deliver advanced public transit solutions to the greater Toronto area, and we are honored by their renewed confidence in our products, solutions and teams.”

The new LRVs will each be 48 meters long and have a passenger capacity of 321. The Citadis Spirit is a 100 percent low-floor vehicle featuring a wide central aisle. It is capable of operating in winter conditions down to -38°C and has reinforced insulation, HVAC, and snow and ice management solutions.

Alstom is also supplying Metrolinx with a new Iconis control center to integrate the GO Transit network and a new signaling system for the Union Station Rail corridor.
