Deutsche Bahn AG has chosen Alstom to retrofit 19 additional ICE1 high-speed trains with the European Train Control system (ETCS) signaling standard. The work, worth more than 10 million euros, is expected to be completed by September 2021.
The contract includes development, design and manufacture of the digital signaling system ETCS Level 2 Baseline 3, installation, connection to existing train control systems and commissioning. The retrofitting work will be implemented in cooperation with several Alstom sites. The conversion and recommissioning of the vehicles will be carried out at the ICE-plant in Hamburg-Eidelstedt.
