MTA Announces Track Work on Metro-North, LIRR Lines

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will be doing work on sections of both the Metro-North Railroad and on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) this weekend and at other scheduled times.

On the Metro–North Railroad, crews will perform track improvement work on the Waterbury Branch over four consecutive weekends: July 14-16, 21-23, 28-30 and August 4-6. Crews will be renewing three railroad crossings in Milford, replacing crossing surfaces and also rails and ties at each location. Crews will be upgrading the Washington Avenue Bridge in Waterbury with new timbers. Cutting brush and welding rail ties will also be done. Buses will substitute for trains on the Waterbury Branch during the work schedule.

Also, on July 15-16, crews will conduct critical work to advance the LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch Double Track Project. Work will be done on the rail siding in Brentwood. Buses will substitute for LIRR trains at Central Islip and Ronkonkoma for 48 hours.
